If you think it’s impossible to bring in some cash by doing what you love, then think again. It will probably not make you rich by any means but a hobby can certainly help get you some extra spending money. The first thing to do is simple; figure out how you could make money with an existing hobby. Is it something you could sell that other people would want? Or is something you collect like cards or dolls?

If you answered yes to the first question then what you need to do is market yourself. Advertise online or create your own website so people can browse what you have to offer. If you love to knit, take some pictures and post them up. People may happen to stumble upon your work and love it. Once you’ve got a few customers, this can really help your sales by word of mouth advertising. Someone buys a scarf and shows their friend who loves it, so now she wants one too, and so on and so forth.

If you are into collecting there are a few things you could do. First, you could sell off some pieces that you may not really want or have duplicates of. You could also try and see if what you’ve got is really worth something. Get some stuff appraised and see what it is really worth. If what you have to offer is really valuable there may be other collectors who would be willing to give you a huge payout or even arrange some type of trade. Lastly, you could start writing about what it is you collect. Start a newsletter for other companies or collectors who are looking for expert opinions, or even start your own site wiring about your collection and make some easy money through advertising clicks.

Let’s face it, not all hobbies are great moneymakers but they are certainly more fun than a real job! Be creative, if you love to cook then get online and put some ads out as a personal chef. If you love to travel then utilize that by taking photos of your journeys or blogging about great places to go. Don’t underestimate your abilities and if you are passionate about what you like to do you should find having fun is the most important part and the money will just be a nice perk.
